A friend of mine is a new teacher and she said they spent one solid week on testing alone at the beginning of the school year. One whole week! What are they learning?
But I don't see how parents homeschool. Parenting seems so difficult as it is--add in teaching as well? Oy vey! I can barely crawl out of bed in the morning. I can't imagine. But then again, if I had to send my kids to public school in the state of California...um...
We home-schooled for a couple years when our kids were young, but it got to be too difficult to teach the older ones with little ones underfoot. I was never very good at manipulating the curriculum to suit different age groups. It takes a lot of patience and organizational skills....of which I have neither.
I distinctly remember the day that we were working on sounding out words and our second son was struggling with the word RAT. I kept saying rrr...at, rrr...at, rrr...at, and suddenly he had a Eureka moment and with a huge smile on his face, blurted out..."TOM!" It was pretty much downhill from that moment on :(

Ok, I know I shouldn't laugh but...ahahahahah TOM! ahahhahaha
ReplyDelete*shutting up now*
You can laugh at my pain, go right ahead (we do, it's the only way to survive parenting).
ReplyDeleteMoral of the story...some people should NOT be teachers....sigh.
